Why would someone need or desire spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction can help you deepen your relationship with God, grow in your faith journey and cultivate a life more in tune with spiritual things.
It can also make you aware of the ways in which you cooperate with, ignore, or in some cases even hinder the Holy Spirit’s work within you.
Spiritual direction has its roots in early Christianity and yet many people are unaware of this ancient tradition.
In the Old Testament, we see Moses giving guidance to the Israelites in the desert and Eli helping Samuel in how to answer when God called.
In the New Testament, the gospels describe Jesus serving as a mentor to His disciples and Paul writing letters of spiritual guidance to new groups of converts across the Roman Empire.
Typically, the person seeking direction shares stories of their encounters with God while the spiritual director listens and asks questions to assist the directee in their process of reflection and spiritual growth.
You may benefit from spiritual direction sessions if any of the following are true for you:
You need help discovering God’s will in an area of your life
You want to learn how to hear God more clearly
You desire to learn more about spiritual practices and disciplines
You would like to learn how to pray more effectively
You need help discovering your spiritual gifts
You want a better understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and how He works in your life
You want to grow your faith in Christ
You need spiritual healing from past wounds or hurts
You would like to share your joys, fears and struggles in a safe environment
You desire to get spiritually unstuck
Where could you use a little help in your spiritual journey?
