Have you ever been afraid to pray, “Your will be done” for fear that God won’t give you what you want?
Come on…I can’t be the only one!
In the LORD’s prayer, Jesus taught us to pray: Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10)
When we come to God, we have to say, “Your will be done.”
These words can be downright scary because the meaning is this:
If God’s will and my will are not in complete agreement, then I give up my will in order that God’s will may be done.
When we submit to God, we must understand that prayer is not a way for us to get Him to do what we want but rather we are becoming instruments for God to do what He wants.
If surrendering feels difficult, keep these three truths in mind:
- God loves you more than you love yourself
- God understands you better than you understand yourself
- God wants only the best for you
God’s ability to answer our prayers is far greater and far higher and far better than anything you or I could ever imagine or think of for ourselves.
As long as we limit God to doing merely what we want, we miss what God wants.
When have you prayed for something and God gave you something even better?
